In 1952, Dr. Paul Fried wanted to bring the hopeful message of the Gospel to the people of Spain.
During Francisco Franco’s dictatorship, Spanish Protestants were forbidden from preaching on private property or distributing Christian literature.
Therefore, in 1954, Dr. Fried purchased a small, surplus army radio transmitter and, from Tangier, Morocco, transmitted the message of hope to the Spanish people in their own language.
This was the first step towards Radio TWR, which would later become the world’s largest evangelical media organization.

In 1956, the organization expanded from Tangier, Morocco, to over 40 countries and 20 languages.
In the spring of 1959, the Moroccan government nationalized all radio stations, effectively ending the organization’s activities in Tangier.
However, God’s vision for Transworld Radio was much bigger than Morocco.
Later that same year, a transmitter was established in Beslan, Germany (Gospel Air), leading to a national partnership with the US under Article VII; this partnership expanded to over 75 partners worldwide.

In 1962, TWR moved to Monte Carlo and continued broadcasting the Bible throughout Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
The building, originally constructed by Hitler to broadcast Nazi propaganda worldwide, was now used by Transworld Radio to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In 1963, new offices were opened in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
In 1964, Transworld Radio made its first broadcast from Buenos Aires with a power of 500,000 watts. This was one of the most powerful transmitters in the Western Hemisphere.

In 1970, the 6tw transmitter in Sri Lanka went on the air, followed by the DWI transmitter in India in 1977, and the transmitter in Hong Kong on September 4, 1977.

In 1990, TWR 2 began broadcasting from Albania, and in 1990, TWR 3 India received over 50,000 letters from listeners each month, all of which were answered personally.
Earlier that year, by April, people in North India and surrounding countries were receiving the Bible in 13 different languages from the Siberian transmitter.
In 1990, TWR 5 was established in Korea to produce Christian programming.

In 1996, TWR began broadcasting in Central Asia, reaching over 60 minority groups in the Persian-speaking community of the Middle East.
The tenth transmitter officially launched in 1997, Project Gamma, with the goal of serving women around the world and teaching them that even in the midst of extreme oppression, ultimate joy and hope can only be found in Christ.
Broadcasting began in Romania in 1998 and began in Eastern Europe in 1990.
In 2004, GWR began operations in Colombia, Peru, and Cuba, distributing 2,000 AIDS education programs for youth.

Between 2013 and 2014, TWR3 covered some of the most dangerous places in the world (Pakistan, Afghanistan, India); God speaks to billions of people around the world through TWR3.
Can you imagine what TWR has planned for the next 60 years?
